Sallon bukurie: the beauty salons of Pristina and how to choose

Klea Dervishi
The whole experience: service, atmosphere and value

Klea takes the whole salon into view: customer service, atmosphere, professionalism and value for money. She writes for readers who want a place where the experience is comfortable and consistent every time.

A beauty salon is the place that covers more than hair: makeup, brows, facials, sometimes nails and lashes too. The practical difference from a hair salon is range: where the hair salon stops at the blow dry, the beauty salon continues to skin and makeup.

From our ranking, the true wide-range beauty salons are B&B Elegance, FRK Beauty Kosova, Njomza Beauty Center and Passion. The full ranking of all 15 places, from hair salons to skin clinics, is below.

What the term covers and why it is so broad

"Sallon bukurie" is Albanian's umbrella term for any business that works on appearance: hair, makeup, brows, lashes, nails, facial and body treatments. While "sallon ondulimi" and "parukeri" clearly mean hair, "sallon bukurie" tells you nothing precise about what sits behind the door. A place with this name can be a two-chair nail studio, a large house with three floors of services, or anything in between.

This vagueness is not a language problem, it is a practical one. Whoever searches "sallon bukurie Prishtinë" gets hair salons, nail studios, makeup centres and skin clinics in a single list, and has to sort them alone. That is why this page gives you not just the ranking but also the map: which categories exist in the market and who does what, according to what the salons themselves publish.

The four families of the Pristina market

The hair-only salons. Etrit Hair says openly that it does no makeup and has balayage as its specialty. VOGUEhair in Pejton, some twenty years in business and an official Olaplex partner, is likewise hair-only. A&L Hair Studio positions itself on colour and colour correction, Hair Time on balayage and keratin. SERA adds manicure alongside hair. These are the addresses when your requirement is hair and nothing else.

The wide-range houses. B&B Elegance covers hair, makeup and facials in one visit. FRK Beauty Kosova lists lashes, microblading, skincare, bridal makeup and hair styling, plus professional courses. Njomza Beauty Center goes from makeup and bridal work to permanent brows, hair extensions and keratin. The Passion network, founded in 2003, has the broadest range across its branches: hair, makeup, brows and facials.

The nail studios. Red Beauty Corner is salon and training academy at once, with Russian manicure, gel extensions and lashes; it runs courses abroad too, including Fribourg in Switzerland. Serpent Claws calls itself a "Nail Bar & Concept Space" and works only on nails, with an emphasis on design. Marei Esthetic adds a solarium alongside manicure and pedicure. Rina Zaiti runs several units under one name: nails, face and body.

The skin clinics. estethica, second in our ranking, is not a salon in the classic sense at all: it is the Kosovo branch of a Turkish medical-aesthetic brand, operating since 2012, with HydraFacial, laser, mesotherapy and dermatological procedures. We include it because people search for it alongside the salons, but expect a clinical standard, not a salon atmosphere.

Even the way of making contact differs by family. Most are reached on WhatsApp or Viber via the Instagram number, but there are peculiarities: FRK Beauty has its own loyalty app on Google Play and states that it does not take appointments the usual way, Njomza offers online booking, estethica keeps a website in Albanian and English. These details save time when known in advance, especially in the season when every day of waiting costs one appointment less.

And a note on names: do not be misled by the English of the brands. "Beauty Center", "Concept Space", "Esthetic" are marketing dress; the substance is defined by the service list and the work photos, not by the word in the logo. Always check what a salon actually does before you classify it in your head.

How to match your need to the category

The first rule: start from the service, not the name. If you want only a cut or a balayage, the hair specialists are the natural choice, because their whole day is hair. If your day is an event, a wedding, an engagement or a celebration, and you need hair, makeup and perhaps a facial beforehand, a wide-range house gathers it all into one schedule and one address, which in wedding season is worth a lot.

The second rule: for skin, ask yourself whether the need is cosmetic or medical. A deep cleanse or a hydrafacial is salon work; persistent skin problems, laser procedures and anything requiring dermatological judgement belong to a clinic. The boundary is not always clear even to the market itself, so do not hesitate to ask who will perform the treatment and what training they have.

The third rule: the size of the name is not a measure of quality. Our ranking holds salons with hundreds of thousands of followers and salons with almost no online trace, and the panel scores follow neither blindly. Followers show how well a salon communicates, not how well it cuts or does makeup. Look at the published work, not the numbers underneath it.

Prices in a market without lists

Of the 15 names in the ranking, only B&B Elegance publishes full prices, and its list covers all three areas of a beauty salon: hair (haircut 15 €, blow-dry 8 to 12 €, colour 40 €, balayage from 140 €), makeup (25 €) and brows (shaping 7 €, tint 8 €), plus the face, from the 25 € deep cleanse to the 60 € hydrafacial, with combinations like deep cleanse plus hydrafacial at 50 €.

Everyone else gives prices in private conversation, and that is normal for the market. Be careful with only two things. First, seasonal offers, like the 4.99 to 64.99 € promotions of the Passion network, are conditional campaigns, not standard menus. Second, the "€30 to 200" figures that appear in some business directories are the directory's own listing packages, not salon prices; do not read them as such.

The best way to get an accurate price: write on WhatsApp or Viber, say exactly what you want, attach photos, and ask what the figure includes. For combined services, request the package price in writing; many salons calculate differently when you book several services together, but only if you ask.

The questions that clear everything up before the appointment

In a market without public lists, your questions are the main safety tool. No serious salon takes offence at an informed client; on the contrary, precise questions raise the level of the conversation and spare you the surprises. These five are always worth asking.

How to read the ranking on this page

The table above is not a sponsored list and does not follow follower counts. Our five reviewers, each with her own beat, from hair to skin to the diaspora experience, ranked all 15 names from 1 to 15, using each number only once. The sum of the five scores gives the order; the theoretical maximum is 75. The full method, together with its limits, is explained on the "How we rate" page.

Since the categories compete together, read the ranking with the category in mind: a nail studio does not compare directly with a hair salon, but within its own category the position says a lot. If your need is clear, find the highest name of the relevant category and start there.

Booking and the season

Channels differ from salon to salon and are worth knowing in advance. B&B Elegance takes appointments by phone, WhatsApp and Viber. Njomza has online booking. FRK Beauty states in its bio that it does not take appointments the usual way, so ask early on Instagram how it works. Red Beauty Corner books via Viber and WhatsApp. estethica is arranged by phone or WhatsApp. When unsure, a first message on Instagram clears the path.

The season matters more than anything else. July and August, with the diaspora's return and the cluster of weddings, fill the good slots weeks ahead, Saturdays first. Whoever plans a summer event should lock the appointment two or three weeks early; whoever simply wants a cut has it easier on weekday mornings. The rest of the year is markedly calmer and better suited to trying new salons.

Prices and hours change. Confirm directly with the salon before booking.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a beauty salon and a hair salon?

Range. The hair salon stops at hair; the beauty salon continues to makeup, brows, skin and often nails. In practice each salon draws the line itself, so check the service list before booking.

Can I get hair, makeup and a facial in a single place?

Yes, at the wide-range houses. B&B Elegance advertises exactly that, one visit for hair, makeup and skin, and the Passion network covers a similar range across branches. Book the services together and ask for back-to-back scheduling.

Are clinics like estethica beauty salons?

Not in the classic sense: estethica is a medical-aesthetic clinic with procedures like laser and mesotherapy. We keep it in the ranking because it is searched alongside salons, but expect a clinical setting and procedures, not hairstyles.

How do I know what a service costs when there are no public lists?

Use B&B Elegance's public list as the market reference, then request a written quote from the salon you are interested in, with photos of your hair or your request. The price confirmed in writing before the appointment is your protection.
