Before an event, two appointments in two different places are a waste of time and a risk of delay. Not every salon does both: many of Pristina's best known hair names offer no makeup at all.

Why one salon for both is worth it

The first argument is time: a single appointment, a single trip, zero waiting between services. The second is a unified look. When hair and makeup happen in the same place, the team sees both together in the mirror and harmonizes them: the intensity of the makeup is tuned to the hairstyle, not each one on its own. When you do them in two places, nobody sees the complete result before you walk out the door.

The third argument is responsibility. If something goes wrong, a delay, a colour that clashes, makeup that sits heavy, you have a single counterpart who fixes it on the spot. With two different places, each points at the other, and you are left in the middle with the clock running.

How to plan the appointment around the event time

You calculate backwards from the event time. Professional makeup usually takes 45 to 75 minutes, the hairstyle 45 to 90 minutes depending on hair length and complexity. Add a half-hour buffer for delays and the trip, and the formula appears: for a 19:00 event, the appointment should start around 15:30 or 16:00. Never leave it to the last hour; if the day runs smoothly, half an hour of calm before the event is a reward, not a problem.

• Come with hair washed the day before or the same morning, following the salon's instruction; some hairstyles hold better on second-day hair, ask when booking.
• Wear a buttoned shirt or a wide-necked top; you will not get it off over your head without ruining hair and makeup.
• Eat something before the appointment. Two or three hours in the chair on an empty stomach, in summer, is a recipe for dizziness.
• The skin gets prepared the night before with good hydration, not with experiments: no new mask or peel on the day of the event.

Hair first or makeup first?

The usual rule: hair first. The heat of the dryer, the fixing sprays and the strands flying around the face would damage finished makeup. Makeup comes after, on a calm face and with the hairstyle done, so the makeup artist sees the frame she is working in. The exception is hairstyles with a lot of pulling that redden the forehead; in those cases the team splits the work differently, and this is exactly where a salon that does both shows its value: they decide it between themselves, not you.

The trial run: when it is worth it

For an ordinary dinner you do not need a trial. For your own wedding, your engagement or an event where you will be photographed all evening, a trial a few weeks ahead is the smartest investment: you see how the skin carries the makeup over hours, how the hairstyle behaves, and whether the team's taste matches yours. Photograph the trial result in daylight, in indoor light and with flash; makeup that looks beautiful in the mirror can behave completely differently in front of a camera.

How to communicate the look you want

• Bring photos of the makeup and the hairstyle separately, and a photo of the outfit. The colour of the dress changes everything, from the eyeshadow to the lipstick tone.
• Say how visible you want the makeup, on the scale from natural to glamorous; that single sentence orients the whole job.
• Mention allergies, contact lenses and eye sensitivity before the makeup starts, not when the false lashes begin to sting.
• Take your own lipstick or ask which tone is being used; refreshing during the evening is your job and you need the right colour with you.

The week before the event: preparing skin and hair

Makeup and hairstyle are the top floor of a building; the foundations are laid the week before. The facial happens 5 to 7 days before the date, so the skin is calm and hydrated (at B&B Elegance the deep cleanse costs 25 €, the hydrafacial 60 €). The brows get done 2 to 4 days ahead. The hair colour happens 1 to 3 days before the event, so it shines fresh. No new experiments in this week: no new products, no untested treatments, no drastic diets that show on the face.

The day of the event: a sample schedule

• Morning: shower, hair wash only if the salon asked for it, a calm breakfast. No last-minute dress fitting.
• 15:30 (for a 19:00 event): arrival at the salon in a buttoned shirt, hair first.
• Around 17:00: makeup, with a short pause in the middle to see yourself in light different from the chair's.
• 18:15: leaving the salon, dressing at home or the hotel, and half an hour of reserve so you do not arrive at a run.

The most common mistakes

• Scheduling makeup before hair because "that is how the slots fell": the order has technical reasons, ask for it the other way.
• Arriving with sunburnt skin: no foundation covers it and no makeup artist can fix it that day. The week before the event is a week of shade.
• Trying false lashes for the first time on the day of the event: if the eyes react, you find out at the worst possible moment.
• Not planning for food: the makeup finishes, the wedding starts at seven, and dinner is served at ten. A light meal before the salon saves your evening.

Wedding season: book early

In Kosovo weddings concentrate in summer, when the diaspora returns too, and the Saturdays of July and August are the most requested days of the year for makeup and hair. If your event falls in this period, book several weeks ahead and confirm the appointment two or three days before the date. Your odds are better for the early afternoon hours than the late ones, when every chair in the city is taken. And if you are part of the wedding, ask whether several spots can be booked at once; a mother-sisters-friends group at the same salon simplifies everyone's morning.

Price context

At B&B Elegance the full look has a public price: hairstyle 25 € and makeup 25 €, so 50 € in total for a regular event; brides pay the dedicated rates of 100 € for makeup and 100 € for the hairstyle. For comparison, in Germany or Switzerland professional event makeup alone usually costs 60 to 120 €, and the hairstyle as much again; the full look often lands at 120 to 250 €. The other salons in Pristina offering both do not publish prices, so ask for the total in writing when you book, together with the duration.

What to ask the salon when booking

• Do hair and makeup run at the same time or one after the other, and how long does everything take together?
• Are false lashes included in the makeup price or paid separately?
• What happens if I am late or the event gets postponed: is there flexibility on the appointment?
• For weddings: does the team travel to the venue, and what does that add-on cost?
